Lovely Antique Bridal Basket, made by Middletown Plate Company, would make the perfect wedding gift! The glass is opal and pink with a gold rim around the ruffled edge. The silver stand is also highly detailed with flowers on the handle and on the base. Base of metal provides the maker's mark and also indicates: Quadruple plate, Hard white metal. The glass bowl sits nicely in the metal frame.
Antique bride's baskets (popular in the 1860’s through 1910) were typically made of silver and glass and were used to bestow gifts during wedding ceremonies. Some were also used to hold petals distributed by the flower girl. This bowl would similarly make a lovely centerpiece on a wedding gift table. This beautiful basket would also be a treasured wedding gift for that special couple.
Middletown Plate Company was located in Middletown, Connecticut. The business was started in 1864 and the trademark continued to be used until 1921.

There are small brown marks in the base of the glass basket and very small white imperfections (see picture). These small light marks do not take away from the beauty of the piece. less
