A pair of gorgeous finely carved very detailed one of a kind Foo dogs. Each Foo Dog is carved from one solid piece of wood ancient opposing foo dogs. The dogs have uniquely expressive faces and bodies will full tails each with a round free moving wood pearl in their mouth. Late 19th century to the early 1930s solid wood carved foo dogs. The pair of intricately carved Foo Dog sculptures depict mythical lion-like animals that are protectors, "guardian lions".
Truly a fine antique Pair of Chinese Foo (Fu) guardian temple dog/lions from the early 1900s, in beautiful all hand carved high relief with magnificent gilt on the bodies and vivid red color underneath. This wonderful early pair was perhaps part of a bigger piece kept in a Chinese temple.
Foo dogs are not actually dogs at all but lions who are also called Shishi which are meant to guard gates to keep evil forces from entering a temple or home.
The statues are sold as a set of 2 statues, male on the right and a female on the left representing the opposing forces of yin and yang.
Perfect for home and or office.
