The Royal Vienna porcelain factory was founded in 1744 and used the much seen shield mark as its factory mark until the factory closed in 1864. Josef Zasche was born in Gablonz (now Czech Republic) in 1821. He worked as porcelain painter at the Vienna Porcelain Manufacture from 1844 painting also on ivory and enamel and founded his own workshop for porcelain and enamel painting in Vienna. Zasche is of the greatest significance among the Viennese porcelain painters. His subjects are mostly religious or copies after old masters from the Viennese museums. His works were displayed at the greatest international exhibitions including Philadelphia 1876, Paris 1878 and 1889, Vienna 1880 and Chicago 1893. There is always demand for good quality Vienna pieces such as this, especially for an attractive young lady such as this! The frame is excellent quality (you can always tell quality by looking at the back where the strut has excellent engraving) and of course the diamonds add to the value.
