The scrolling backrest and arms bear wonderfully hand-carved symmetrical swirling … Read more A simply stunning Catalan basket sofa with a walnut frame. The scrolling backrest and arms bear wonderfully hand-carved symmetrical swirling lines and sunshine motifs to the frame all standing on seven tapering legs. This original sofa has been fully restored, and the sofa has been stripped back to the solid walnut pegged frame and horse hair cushioning. The original cushioning has been complemented with extra padding to the sides and backrest for comfort. A new padded squab cushion has been made for the seat due to the demise of the original but made to the exact dimensions. Finally, the sofa has been finished in a wonderful blue navy linen throughout. In a wonderful state of preservation rich in colour and patination. Spain, circa 1860. See less
