Original and unique large spherical table lamp made by Catalonian designer Lluis Porqueras for the firm Stoa studio in the 1970s.
An imposing, yet simple design. A large white plastic ball is held in an elegantly curved frame structure made of chromed steel. . Left and right part of the feet are symmetrical suspending the glove in the air creating a dramatic visual effect . The globe serves as a diffuser and lights as a whole. A bright white ball which rests in a chrome frame.
Lluís Porqueras is considered one of the most important authors of Catalan design. After taking some architecture courses, he taught himself an industrial designer and began his professional career working in the restoration of houses and farmhouses in Empordà.
In 1965 he, together with his friend and designer Paco Blanco, founded the Stoa studio. Pioneering company in design in Catalonia where they produced their own items and those of other designers such as Enric Franch.
Already very oriented towards lighting, in 1979, together with Jaume Vaquero, they founded the company Vapor, a name that arose from the surname Jaume and Lluís, and as a representation of the industrial area of Barcelona (Poble Nou) from where they worked. Under an austere style they experimented with materials until they found the simplicity of the objects. They worked with the objective of testing, learning and creating new objects. Lluís Porqueras himself, working with few financial means, distilled a methodology to build ethically and to understand industrial processes with the aim of achieving the best alternative for his clients. Always far from fashion, his objective was to extract ornamentation and details until he obtained simple and merely useful pieces.
Some of his clients were renowned lighting and interior design companies such as Marset, Santa & Cole, Mobles 114 or Targetti, for which he designed emblematic objects that continue to be edited and produced today. Among his many works, the Claris suspension lamp or the Funiculí stand out.
Catalonia, a region in northeastern Spain, has a rich history of industrial design and artistic innovation. During the 1970s, there were several notable developments in Catalan industrial design
influenced by broader design movements of the time, such as Modernism and the global design trends of the era. There was a focus on functional, innovative, and aesthetically pleasing designs.
While the 1970s were marked by a return to more traditional values and design aesthetics in some parts of the world, Catalonia was not immune to the influence of modern design trends. Catalan designers of the era were able to blend contemporary design with a sense of local identity, resulting in a distinctive and innovative approach to industrial design. Today, this period in Catalan design history is regarded with great significance and continues to influence contemporary designers in the region This piece has an attribution mark,
