Handwoven in the Oushak region of Western Turkey in the 1980s, this large vintage kilim brings bold geometric rhythm and confident color to any space. The broad blue field, stacked diamonds and stepped borders give it a striking, almost modernist presence while still feeling grounded in traditional village weaving culture. On the floor it reads as a strong statement piece that can anchor a living room, studio or open-plan area with ease.
The weave is thin and flexible, making it easy to place under furniture while still feeling robust enough for daily use. Pattern repetition along the length keeps the eye moving, and the combination of red, blue, cream and green works beautifully with warm woods and neutral upholstery. Professionally cleaned and odorless, it shows the small irregularities in shape and weave that collectors appreciate in genuine handwoven rugs, including a form that is not machine-perfectly rectangular.

✨ Color Palette & Design Insight
The palette feels bold yet balanced, combining saturated field tones with softer neutrals so the rug stands out without overwhelming a room. It pairs especially well with mid-century, boho, eclectic and Scandinavian interiors, and looks fantastic on both light stone and warm wood floors.
• Deep terracotta and brick red along the main borders
• Strong cobalt / royal blue in the central field
• Soft cream and ivory in the hourglass and stepped motifs
• Muted sage and olive greens adding depth in the diamonds and edges
• Light beige and straw tones framing the ends and selvedges
✨ Motifs & Symbolism
A chain of large stepped diamond medallions runs down the center, a classic protective form often interpreted as an eye guarding the home. Rows of hourglass and bow-tie shapes populate the blue field, associated with balance, the passage of time and, in some traditions, feminine energy and fertility. Along the sides, sawtooth triangles suggest stylized mountains or trees, symbolizing rootedness, stability and growth. Together these motifs create a rhythmic, protective composition that visually pulls the room together and adds a sense of movement underfoot.
