An oil on canvas executed while the artist was at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. Pictured is also a woodcut from his Judaica series on which this original was based. The work is signed on reverse.
Jerzy Duda Gracz (1941 - 2004)
Jerzy Duda Gracz, painter, graduate of the Graphic Art Faculty at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow . He received the diploma in 1968. In the years 1976-82 he was a lecturer there and later a professor at the University of Śląsk in Katowice. The artist has had over 180 individual exhibitions in Poland and abroad (in Berlin, London, Paris, Moscow, Rome, Vienna, Florence, Düsseldorf, Chicago, New Delhi, Munich, New York among others). He took part in over 300 national and international displays of Polish art. He represented Poland on the XVI Biennial exhibition in Venice in 1984, the XX and XXI World Art Fair in Cologne in 1986 and 1987 and on the EXPO in Seville among others. The Paintings of Jerzy Duda Gracz can be found in the collections of the Polish National Museum in Warsaw, Cracow, Poznań, Wrocław and Gdańsk/Danzig, in the museum of the Jagellonian University in Collegium Maius in Cracow, in the Museum of Earth/archeological museum of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw (and collection of pieces of art in Jasna Góra in Częstochowa). He can be also found abroad in the collections of the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Museum of Pushkin in Moscow, the Municipal Museum in Ghent, the BAWAG Foundation in Vienna, the Vatican Collection and in galleries and collections in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Holland, Israel, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Norway, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, U.S.A., Venezuela, Great Britain, Italy and Hungary. Some of his paintings are also part of private collections of W.Ochman and W.Fibak among others.
