Luckily the lid survived and it is up for sale. It may constitute a fantastic Asian masterpiece decoration in your home as it is shaped in the form of a Qing Dynasty Manchu Emperor’s hat with finial. The button or knob would become a finial during formal court ceremonies held by the Emperor. Hats were an important part of official dress at all levels of government, and the finial worn atop a hat was an indicator of the wearer's rank.

Handmade with under-glaze blue and iron red decoration of stylized lotus flower medallions. The interior is ‘raw’, unglazed which means that this piece of pottery is/was not a replica.

Provenance: The item was acquired at a specialty shop in Southern Japan. Piece dates from the Japanese Manchukuo era 1932-1945.
Condition: Very good for age. No visible cracks.
Measurements: 7 inches H, 9 inches W.
