There are some stories on the internet behind these two! My internet search reveals that they had many names - Portrait of a Peasant Man and Lady, Mr. & Mrs. Claus and The Contented Man and Old Woman of Capri. It is said that the man was originally painted by Eduardo Forlenza and the woman, by Sydney Bell. They were said to have been originally painted in the early 1900s. Many versions came out between 1900 and 1950 and were thought to be a popular wedding present in the 1940s. Many prints have been sold online, some on textured paper to resemble canvas.
The ones in this listing are both oil on canvas, both signed by P. Martini, with matching frames and are being sold as a set. They were purchased from an antique shop in the 1990s. Framed, they measure 20" wide x 24" tall, and the actual painting is 16" wide x 20" tall.
These are likely antiques. They are in very good antique condition. Some wear and tear is expected with age and use.
