The keys work well and nothing sticks too badly for a solid clickety-clackety sound. The carriage moves smoothly and all the bells chime as intended. The ribbon was crumbling when we opened this unit so it will need a new ribbon. This unit should be thoroughly inspected and serviced if it is to be used as a functioning typewriter. The tuxedo black finish on the all metal body is in great shape with lots of the original luster. Some surface scratches, scuffs and marks can be seen on all of the exterior surfaces, all typical of a machine close to 100 years old! Lots of wear, metal discoloration and oxidation can be seen on all the interior metal components, all typical of age and use. The case is in rough shape with discoloration, scratches and scuffs to the exterior, oxidation to the metal hardware and some crumbling to the rubber components. As we place some of our items with film and television period productions (who value authentic patina, distress and age) we have left this typewriter and case in the original, as-found condition. Both the machine and case could use a thorough cleaning if they are to be used and displayed in the home. Please do review all the detail images as we have made an effort to show all the imperfections, the photos tell an accurate story of condition. less
