A gorgeous and massive French 19th century carved and painted gilt picture frame with new mirror plate. This hand-carved frame (which once housed a large painting) has now been repurposed into a fabulous Neoclassical style gilt mirror. Its beautiful details include wonderfully carved acanthus leaf corners and deep reeded pattern with thick inner trim and molded edges. A cartouche in the bottom center holds a plaque engraved “JEAN D’ESPOUY” which signifies that the frame originally held a work by artist Jean d’Espouy (1891-1921), a known French painter and watercolorist who appears in the collections of several major institutions around Paris. This lovely and lustrous framed mirror is a great decorative find that will command attention in any interior. Be sure to view all the images to get a closer look.
