Crafted in France circa 1890, the substantial composition captures the innocence of childhood through beautifully modeled figures, natural poses, and finely executed details.

The young boy, with softly curled hair and a collared shirt, rests one arm affectionately around the girl while pointing toward the pages of the book. The little girl, wearing a flowing dress with puffed sleeves and her hair tied into small pigtails, supports the open volume as both children concentrate on their reading. Their delicate facial expressions, intricately sculpted hairstyles, and realistic folds of clothing demonstrate the quality of the casting.

The sculpture features a rich, dark brown patinated bronze finish, beautifully contrasted by gilt bronze accents highlighting the children's collars, hands, and edges of the open book. The composition is sculpted in the round, with equally detailed treatment of the figures from the back and sides.

The antique bronze sculpture is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, retaining its beautiful two-tone patinated and gilt finish. Weighing an impressive 51 pounds, this charming composition would make a wonderful addition to a library, study, or living room.
