Loyola. The painting is very well executed with high level of artistic skill very much in the style of Degas and his famous ballerinas. The soft pastel coloring with gorgeous lighting make it so dreamy. We love it for it's unique shape as it captures the entire room of dancers. Signed and dated upper left. Circa 1965
Provenance on the back reads Villaluz Art Gallery Manila. The painting is exquisite and features five ballerinas in the final moments before a performance. Each is engaged in final adjustments of slippers or costume. A very behind the scenes perspective not often portrayed. A world of pink and white loveliness with a flourish of charm and grace and beauty behind the scenes.


Loyola One of the great traditional realists of Philippine painting of the mid century, Victor C. Loyola was greatly influenced by his contemporary and friend, Fernando Amorsolo. Loyola painted throughout the Philippines. His subjects included landscapes, portraits and mural painting. He was associated with Vicente Manansala, Lu Ocampo, Ardenio Capili and Marcelino Sanchez in th creation of murals for the San Marcelino Church and the Time Theatre owned by the Aranetas in Manila.
