The bench was purchased from the estate of a leading Interior Designer from the Palm Springs, CA area who redesigned the bench with black paint and a custom seat cushion The bench has a wicker woven seat that is stretched and anchored by wooden frame. The carved and curved frame has with a floral wooden ormulu in the manner of Louis XVI that drips at the center apron and is highlighted in parcel gilt painted by-hand. The rest of the bench is painted in a semi gloss black paint including the wicker portion of the bench. A plush foam filled cushion custom made for this bench carries a distinctive motif that includes black silk taffeta fabric embroidered in a repetitive pattern of gold dragonflies. Gold and black braided rope pipes the top and bottom rim of the cushion with a 3" area between the rectangular top and bottom in which a copper toned iridescent silk moiré fabric is sandwiched. The removeable cushion has gold and black roped tassels that are tied to the bench legs to secure the pillow but also for its decorative value.

Overall this Colonial style bench (circa 1930s) is not ideal for active use as it is fairly delicate and better used as décor than for regular wear. It appears to be inspired by the style of the late great artist and interior designer Tony Duquette. The other items discovered at the time of purchase from the estate had unmistakable Duquette style references including personal photos of the two designers in pose together.
