A very closely woven large scatter from a central Persian town famous for its exceptionally well-made rugs and carpets, beginning in the 1930’s.
This structurally characteristic rug shows a deep navy ground supporting an allover pattern derived from the iconic Herati layout with the equivalent concave diamonds, lancet leaves, rosettes and palmettes. The pattern repeats more less complete six times vertically and is highlighted in straw, cream, salmon, light blue, sky blue and brown black. There are no areas of strong red. Old ivory main border of in-and-out escutcheon palmettes and split acanthus leaves. Velvety surface. Good condition.
