Adapted from Paul Klee's "Silence of Angels," this handmade Oushak flat weave kilim is a one-of-a-kind textile artwork produced in West Anatolia in the 2020s. Woven on wool warp and weft using natural dyes, it required approximately twenty days to complete — a singular commission born from the Bauhaus master's surrealist figural vocabulary. Each thread reflects Anatolia's centuries-refined flat weave tradition applied to a resolutely contemporary artistic vision.
At 3'10" x 5'3", this wool kilim functions as a statement floor piece or wall hanging equally suited to Mid-Century Modern, Art Deco, and Organic Modern interiors. Its large-scale abstracted forms and natural dye palette bridge gallery-art and functional textile, anchoring a sitting area or reading nook. The composition reads differently from each vantage point, offering sustained visual interest within a considered interior.

◆ Color Palette & Design Insight:
The salmon coral field of this Oushak kilim is animated by sweeping charcoal contours, creating a painterly tension that reads as confidently in a gallery-adjacent interior as it does on a curated floor.
(Primary colors: salmon coral, olive mustard gold, charcoal black, cobalt blue, forest green, terracotta)
◆ Motifs & Symbolism:
The composition translates Klee's "Silence of Angels" into woven form: a large abstracted eye with cobalt iris anchors the left field, flanked by sweeping curvilinear forms evoking wings or a reclining angelic figure. Secondary elements — a snail-like form and a small green circle — replicate Klee's habit of embedding quiet, symbolic sub-figures within a dreamlike spatial field.

◆ Heritage & Investment Value:
Each Turkish kilim or rug represents a convergence of nomadic craft tradition, natural material mastery, and singular artistic expression. Hand-woven using techniques refined over centuries in Anatolian villages, these works are produced with organic wool and natural dyes — materials that ensure structural integrity and chromatic depth well beyond the lifespan of any machine-made alternative. A vintage Turkish rug is both a curatorial acquisition and a sound design investment: one-of-a-kind, sustainable, and only more valuable with age.
