This listing is for a gorgeous antique Korean chest/cabinet.
This type of cabinet is called a "jang," or in this case, a "sam chung jang," meaning "3 leveled cabinet."
This cabinet is of extremely high quality. The frame is made from elm and pine wood. The front frames are made from maple. The panels along the front are either pear or ash with persimmon inlay. The cabinet is complimented by brass detailing throughout. It rests on a matching stand.
The finish on the wood is quite gorgeous and gives off almost a dark red color. It looks great with its brass ornaments.
This piece has 3 cabinet sections with doors and 4 upper drawers.
This piece dates to the early 19th century (late Joseon period) and comes from Gyeonggi Province, most likely from Hannam (old name for Seoul).
