Watercolor on paper with vibrant color signed lower left presented in archival matte and contemporary frame. Image size 13.5" x 18" overall framed size 19" x 25". In very good circa 1950 vintage condition.

Galen Russell Wolf (1889–1976), Painter. Born in San Francisco CA on April 19, 1889.
Wolf grew up and attended public schools in his native city. He was introduced to art in the studio of Gertrude Boyle and later spent one year in Europe where he was greatly influenced by the French Impressionists.
A lifelong resident of California, about 1926 he moved south to Half Moon Bay where his grandparents had settled in 1846. As well as landscapes of that area and the Sierra Nevada, he also painted a series of the missions and the historic buildings of San Mateo County.
Known as a gentle and talented man whose contributions to our cultural heritage are unique. Wolf was a writer and storyteller as well as a painter. He was a friend of John Muir and Jack London, and a true champion of the coastal lands. See less
