Offered is a mid 20th Century bentwood Teak tray platter designed and created by Shigemichi Aomine (b. 1916 - d. 2001) for the National Craft Council of Japan.
Like a stingray, the tray has a slightly sculpted and subtle elevated partition in the middle.
It measures 19.875" L x 11.875" W x 0.875" H
Born in Kagawa, Japan, Shigemichi Aomine graduated in 1932 from a sculpture course of the Kagawa Craft School. He studied under Genichiro Inokuma after studying at Kawabuchi Art School in Tokyo. In 1954 he held his first solo exhibition at Maruzen Nihonbashi, and went into woodworking and was awarded a prize from Asahi Shimbun Company. From 1960-1990 he held several exhibitions at department stores throughout Japan.
