A late 19th-century fishing spear or harpoon head, individually forged from iron with five long prongs terminating in sharply formed arrow points. Slight variations in the tines and the textured, darkened surface reveal the hand of the blacksmith, while the deep natural patina gives the piece considerable sculptural presence.
Originally fitted to a wooden pole for fishing or eel spearing, it now reads as an evocative piece of vernacular metalwork. Display it vertically or horizontally against plaster, aged timber, or painted paneling in a country-house mudroom, lakeside retreat, study, or collection of sporting antiques.
