Crafted in Provence, France circa 1880, the round stool is constructed of richly patinated walnut and stands on four slender cabriole legs ending in carved escargot feet. Floral carvings accent the knees, while a shaped and scalloped apron follows the circular form of the seat.

The legs are joined by a sculptural cross stretcher centered by a turned wooden support, providing both stability and decorative interest. Upholstered in warm tan leather, the generously padded seat is finished with a row of traditional brass nailhead trim. The seat revolves on its original screw mechanism, allowing the height to be adjusted from 19.5 inches to approximately 25 inches for comfortable use at a piano or dressing table.

Beautifully proportioned, this versatile stool could also serve as occasional seating in a bedroom, music room, library, or living area. The antique piano stool is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with minor wear to the leather consistent with its history and a warm walnut patina throughout.
