They are holding up their hand in a friendly greeting and looking directly at the viewer, with rosy red cheeks and footprints in the snow trailing behind them that reinforce the winter scene captured on a bright, sunny day. I love the detail in the textures and layers of the clothing and the highlights and shadows within the child's face. The contrast between the earthy fabrics and the cool, blue sky is energizing and vibrant.

Signed and dated by the artist in the lower right corner, Doris Hampton Stewart, 1/11/79. Framed in a gold and green, painted wooden frame with a linen liner.

This is one of three paintings purchased from the Stewart estate in Merlin, Oregon, inspired by the places and people Doris met during her international travels.
