'Apple Blossom'
Acrylic and marble plaster on canvas board. Framed
Image size 23.5" x 23.5"
I create the picture first in plaster, made from marble dust and a binding agent. This produces a tangibly dimensional look and feel. After being gessoed, I then paint on this relief with high-quality, heavy-body acrylic paint. The end result is a unique and impactful artwork which tends to draw the viewer in.
I painted this picture during March, and the very early blossom was just beginning to show. My favourite blossom tree is always the apple because it has such delicate shades of pinks to whites with the merest hint of green coming through from its leaves. However, it's not only its blossom but also the magical shape that an old apple tree can be, which can remind one of myths and fairy stories. And I wanted to capture this magic in the painting.
This painting is on a canvas-covered board - no glass required.
The painting has several coats of a semi-sheen varnish for UV and dirt protection.
It is signed and dated on the back.
Painted in 2020.
