This ceramic coin bank is a replica of the famous Williamsburg Savings Bank built in 1927/29 and located in Brooklyn, NY. At that time it was the tallest building in Brooklyn, and today is still considered one of the most outstanding architectural gems of New York City. Made by the Contemporary Ceramics in Chatham, NJ, this was a promotional give-away to encourage new savings accounts during 25th anniversary of the building in 1954. The last photo shows the metal stopper with the name of the company on it; the brownish residue is from the cork pad that since has worn off. The bank measures 7 1/2" tall and is 2 7/8" square. The Brooklyn Museum also has one of these banks in it's collection of decorative arts. See less
