This is part of Chairish’s Costume Jewelry assortment.
A fabulously fresh and joyful multistrand necklace designed by Coppola e Toppo in the 1950s. The piece is built with eight separate strands of beads brought together at the ends by the decorated clasp. The bronze heart-shaped terminals are pave-embroidered, characteristic of Coppola e Toppo's signature style.
As with all of their necklaces, the row of beads appears to have been made from a single thread, stretched taut to create the subtle and elegant twist belying its true intricacy of construction and creating this unusual, flowing design.
The clear sky blue multifaceted crystal beads absorb and reflect the light beautifully. These colors are associated with an unusual opaque turquoise-blue with black swirling beads that create a delightful composition. The blue color seems to be one of the favorites of this designer.
The signature is on the underside of one clasp marked: Made in Italy by, with Coppola e Toppo, partially erased.
Measurements: the necklace's total length is 18.95 in long (48 cm) - largest width is 2.75 in wide (7 cm)
About the designer:
Coppola e Toppo was founded in the late 1940s by Milanese siblings Bruno Coppola and Lydia Toppo. The brand took off in the 1960s when Christian Dior commissioned runway pieces from them. From the 1950s to the 1970s, Coppola e Toppo enjoyed great success through its brand collections both in Europe and in the United States. They also collaborated with many other fashion houses and designers, including Balenciaga, Valentino, Emilio Pucci, Elsa Schiaparelli, Yves Saint Laurent, and Roberta di Camerino. Their work is distinctly elegant, elaborate, and bold, masterfully mixing glass and crystal beads with Swarovski crystals and Lucite.
