Since the 17th Century Portuguese artisans have been hand-painting faience ceramics. The "Forest" pattern features a whimsical mix of deer, peacocks, and rabbits amidst a range of intricate foliage, bridges, "follies", and castles. As interpreted by each artist - no two are alike yet they all replicate 17th century originals. This baluster form vase appears to have never been used. It features vignettes on its front and back sides interspersed with a decorative grid pattern. With borders on it's top and bottom.. Painted marks on bottom read "91 HAND PAINTED XVII CENTURY MADE IN PORTUGAL S.C." Affixed sticker below reads "HANDPAINTED REPRODUCTION OF XVII CENTURY MADE IN PORTUGAL".
