A signed and dated oil painting on Masonite by Washington artist Hulan Fleming (1933–2006), titled “Dawn” and completed in 1967. Fleming was known for his atmospheric Pacific Northwest landscapes and coastal scenes, painted in a realist-impressionist style. This work portrays a rocky shoreline under a misty sky, with a solitary figure emerging through the haze. The muted palette and textured brushwork convey the quiet drama of dawn at the water’s edge, blending natural ruggedness with a sense of mystery.
Presented in its original, period, rustic gray wood frame that complements the subdued tones of the painting. The back of the Masonite board is inscribed with the title “Dawn” and the original 1967 price of $350 (over $3,200 in today’s dollars), reflecting its value at the time.
