This is a rare set of five antique ALKEN, Henry Hunting Prints London: 5 hand-coloured aquatint plates, hunting prints Drawn & Etched by H Alken,

This hand-colored aquatint engraving set of five prints was made in 1850 and is by Henry Thomas Alken (1785-1851), the famous English painter and engraver best known for humorous illustrations of people and sports.
Alken was one of the finest printmakers and a keen sportsman, so he was able to convey the fun and excitement of sports. He was especially skillful in aquatint engraving, a very time-consuming and difficult technique, hence rarer than most other forms of printing. Alken's are wonderfully detailed and have original hand-painted colors. They are considered by antique print collectors to be some of the best of rural sports.

The set includes the following prints:

I: FOX HUNTING FOR EVER! : Gentleman drinking
II: BIBURY MEETING IN ITS PALMY DAYS : Horse riding
III: NOT HANDEL'S SWEET MUSIC MORE PLEASES THE EAR, THAN THAT OF THE HOUNDS IN FULL CRY : Horses and riders galloping over the fields
IV: FOLLOW THE LEADER : Rider and horse in the stream
V: YOU ARE WORTH DOUBLE WHAT I GAVE FOR YOU! : Hunting on horses

Condition:
Very Good condition (Light browning and fading on the prints. The frames show signs of age slight scuffs on the finish do not distract from the overall beauty of these framed prints)

All prints are in wood frames with glass, painted gilt silver/gold with green outside edges.
