Specifically, the heavily wooded walkway is a part of the famed North Parterre, as indicated by a biography tag on the verso side of the painting. The scene is surrounded by a white matte border set inside a giltwood frame adorned with a lanceolate leaf border and a key pattern.

A footpath runs through the garden, in front of a line of trees with mostly turned leaves, although two trees on the far side of the walkway have retained most of their greenery. Based on the number of brown, red, orange, and yellow leaves on the ground, the scene most likely illustrates a mid-autumn day. Three Neoclassical statues on pedestals stand in front of the trees along the right side, with a barely visible fountain in the distance. The sky is overcast, yet unthreatening, giving a sense of calmness to the lovely garden scene. Interestingly, Muller was born at Versailles, and his paintings often captured areas of the vast estate.
