A Truly Outstanding Example of an Original Antique American Primitive Stoneware Storage Crock - Jar. Circa Mid 19th Century. The … more A Truly Outstanding Example of an Original Antique American Primitive Stoneware Storage Crock - Jar. Circa Mid 19th Century. The Number 4 at Lower Decoration Area Confirms its Four Gallon Storage Capacity Size. It has a Classic American Salt Glazed Exterior and the Front is Rendered in a Large and Beautifully Executed Blue Hand Decorated Stylized 3 Flower Design. The Interior is Done in a Dark Coffee Brown Color. It has the Earlier Style Attached "Ears" Side Handles. It has No Maker Mark but it was Most Likely Made in Pennsylvania or Possibly Maryland. It is in Excellent All Original Condition and it Displays Beautifully. It is Strong - Sound and Perfectly Usable with No Chips & No Repairs. Imperfection Noted - There is a Very Fine Hairline Crack Extending Approx. 5 inches From the Top Rim on the Back Side but Upon Close Examination it is Under The Glaze so it Would have Occurred in The Making - Kiln Firing Process. This Can Best Be Seen in The 11th & 12th - Last 2 Photographs. It Also Has a Few Glaze Surface Spot Imperfections at the Base Perimeter and and at The Rim Top but These are Also Kiln Flaws - In the Making Process. F Y I - Imperfections as Such are Actually Quite Common Since These Types of Stoneware Items Were Intended for Daily Utilitarian Use. Each Piece was Completely Hand Made and They were Produced - Fired in Very Large Kilns in Batches with Many Other Pieces at the Same Time.
