Chinese porcelain Qilin cartouches bitong, with a white glazed exterior, interior and inset circle centered on the unglazed base. The sides are slightly tapered, 8.5" diameter at the rim, going down to 7.625" diameter at the base. The top of the rim has a band of blue, calligraphic, variations of Arabic letters within a thin, blue, trim circle. Below the rim is a band of blue, squat fleur-de lys and the foot is banded by large, blue, Ru Yi lappets. Four, freely drawn, blue cartouches are quartered on the pot, alternating with double, polychrome, leafy, lotus flower medallions. Each polychrome cartouche has a finely drawn Qilin amid a landscape of rocks, pines, bushes, palm trees and red, Taoist flames. The finely carved, traditional, Chinese, hongmu stand is included. A blue, six character, Wanli, reign mark in Kaishu script within double rings is glazed to the inset circle of the base. Circa late 19th century, no later than early 20th. A few, unobtrusive kiln faults are seen, as made, excellent vintage condition.
