This Nan Goldin " I'll Be Your Mirror " rare vintage 1996 first edition landmark volume hardcover photograph exhibition book is an incredibly special and unique book to add to your library collection.
The hardcover book with dust jacket is published by The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York and Scalo Zurich-Berlin-New York. Printed and bound in Germany in 1996 on the occasion of the retrospective exhibition at The Whitney Museum. It features an expansive monograph survey of the photography works of the photographer Nan Goldin, edited by Nan Goldin, David Armstrong, and Hans Werner Holzwarth.
Nan Goldin ( B. 1953 ) is an American born photographer and social activist of a middle-class Jewish background. Among the most consequential artists of her generation, Goldin has introduced new modes of image making that have transformed the role of photography in Contemporary Art. Emerging from the artist's own life and relationships, her photographs and moving-image works are both deeply personal and profoundly influential, addressing essential themes of identity, love, sexuality, addiction, and mortality.
Throughout her career she has united art and activism, confronting the HIV/AIDS epidemic since the 1980's and more recently bringing international attention to the overdose crisis. In her work, Goldin unflinchingly documents the struggles and courage that define her community. Her images act as a visual autobiography documenting herself and those closest to her. Works by Goldin are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
This landmark volume presents the first twenty-five years of the artist's work, beginning in the early 1970's. Goldin's compelling photographs, including her deep and complex midlife portraits, take us to the core of our human condition. They tell a personal story about relationships and identity, chronicling Goldin's search for community, her struggle against death and loss, and the expansion of friendships worldwide.
Alongside this richly illustrated seminal book of photographs are compelling contributions by friends and creative luminaries David Armstrong, James Fenton, Marvin Heiferman, J. Hoberman, Walter Keller, Cookie Mueller, Darryl Pinckney, Luc Sante, Joachim Sartorious, Elizabeth Sussman, and David Wojnarowicz, in addition to interviews with the artist herself.
This book " I'll Be Your Mirror " remains the most comprehensive and critically praised publication on the work of the photographer Nan Goldin.
The rare out of print 1st edition hardcover photography exhibition book measures 8 1/4" W 10 7/8" H X 1 1/2" D, with 492 pages. It features more than 400 full-color illustrations, catalogue of works, exhibition history, and bibliography.
