This large pottery bowl by Jaap Ravelli is a very special piece. It has a very unusual shape with a great sculptural quality. In a way it is shaped like a basket with a gap in the middle of the handle, but it looks different and rich from every corner. The tactile material and colours of the piece are also very interesting. Jacob Jozef (Jaap) Ravelli (1916-2011) is a well known Dutch ceramic artist from the 20th century. Together with his brother he started a pottery workshop in 1942 and from the fifties onwards his designs became very popular. The Ravelli pottery designs are very distinct and recognisable and were quite modern in those days. These days the Ravelli pottery pieces are great and modern looking mid-century pieces. In great vintage shape with no faults. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
