A magnificent silver bowl with a boldly reeded body and gadrooned rim resting on detailed lion’s paw feet which spring from robust acanthus sprays mounted to the body of the bowl. Excellent condition, a few scratches on the very bottom of the inside, and a minimal amount of copper showing through only on the high points of the acanthus leg mounts. Bearing the mark of the bell on a ridged ground, a mark used by Roberts, Smith and Co. in approximately 1828; nearly identical marks were also used by other makers over the next 20 years, thus it may be one of the somewhat later marks. Highly polished and lacquered on the outside, so it will not need polishing. Would also serve as a great cachepot or punchbowl.
