Dancing Eyes
Original Abstract Expressionist Oil Painting on European Linen
by Monique Nichols
"Dancing Eyes" is a celebration of movement, curiosity, and the endless conversation between color and light.
Composed of swirling forms that seem to emerge, disappear, and reappear as the eye travels across the canvas, this original painting invites every viewer to experience something different. Some discover playful eyes, others see flowers, seashells, bubbles, galaxies, or living forms in constant motion. There is no single interpretation—only the joyful freedom of imagination.
My creative process is deeply intuitive. Rather than beginning with a fixed composition, I allow each painting to unfold naturally, responding to color, rhythm, and emotion as it develops. Each brushstroke leads to the next until the painting reveals its own personality. That is why no two of my works can ever be repeated.
Years ago, while I owned my own gallery, a woman walked in and immediately connected with one of my abstract floral paintings. She told me her spiritual teacher had described the exact colors and flowing forms she needed in her home. Unable to purchase it immediately, she returned faithfully every week, making small payments until the painting finally became hers. Once she took it home, I never saw her again—but I never forgot how deeply a painting can speak to someone. Experiences like that continue to inspire my work today.
This original painting has been exhibited over the years and carefully transported between several exhibition venues while remaining in excellent original condition.
I personally stretched this fine European linen over the stretcher bars before beginning the painting, completing every stage of its creation by hand in my studio using professional oil paints.
One of the painting's most remarkable qualities is the way it changes throughout the day. Natural daylight, evening light, and accent lighting each reveal different layers of color, depth, and movement. Although every effort has been made to photograph the artwork accurately, the original possesses far greater luminosity, richness, and subtle color transitions than photographs can fully capture.
An accent light placed above or below the painting beautifully enhances its dimensional brushwork and vibrant palette.
Whether displayed in a contemporary residence, executive office, gallery, boutique hotel, or commercial interior, "Dancing Eyes" creates an atmosphere of optimism, movement, imagination, and joyful energy.

From the Artist
Every original painting I create is one of a kind. I never paint from photographs or reproduce previous works. Each painting develops intuitively through color, movement, and emotion, becoming a unique expression that can never be duplicated.

The painting is done in oils and it is on Linen brought from Europe. Although I have taken photographs during the day, having the colors come true as they are, is impossible. In reality, they are much more vibrant. It is like they have their own life since the shapes and color combination create so much movement. The color combination is very peaceful and serene and has a calm yet energetic effect on the viewer. All my paintings change very much by the surrounding light and objects. It would look great with an accent light above or below the painting. An appropriate frame would look great. Wonderful for any residential and commercial environment less
