Emerald Symphony
Original Oil Painting on European Linen
by Monique Nichols
There are moments in nature when light seems to burst quietly rather than loudly. The filtered sunlight through a forest canopy, the brilliance of emerald crystals, or the silent energy of leaves moving in the wind all inspired the feeling behind "Emerald Symphony"
Although abstract in form, the painting suggests movement without urgency. Layers of expressive brushwork radiate outward in luminous greens, soft silvers, warm earth tones, and subtle flashes of color, creating a composition that feels both energetic and deeply calming.
Rather than planning every detail before I begin, I allow each painting to evolve naturally. I work intuitively, responding to color, rhythm, and emotion as the composition develops. I often feel less like someone controlling the painting than someone discovering it one brushstroke at a time.
This original artwork was painted using professional oil colors on premium European linen, which I personally stretched over hand-built stretcher bars before beginning the painting. Every stage of the creative process—from preparing the support to the final layers of paint—was completed entirely by hand in my studio.
The painting has been exhibited over the years and carefully transported between several exhibition venues while remaining in excellent original condition.
One of its most captivating qualities is the way it continually changes with its surroundings. Different lighting conditions reveal new colors, depth, and movement throughout the day. Although every effort has been made to photograph the painting accurately, the original possesses far greater richness, luminosity, and subtle color variations than photographs can fully capture. An accent light above or below the painting beautifully enhances its dimensional qualities.
The handcrafted exhibition frame was created specifically for gallery display. Collectors may certainly choose a different frame to complement their own interior, although the painting possesses a strong presence that also allows it to stand beautifully on its own.
Whether displayed in a contemporary residence, executive office, boutique hotel, gallery, or commercial interior, "Emerald Symphony" brings elegance, movement, serenity, and timeless sophistication to any space.

From the Artist
Every original painting I create is unique. I never paint from photographs or reproduce previous works. Each piece develops intuitively through color, movement, and emotion, making every painting a one-of-a-kind expression that can never be duplicated.

The painting is done in oils and it is on Linen brought from Europe. Although I have taken photographs during the day, it is impossible to have the colors come true as they are. In reality, they are much more vibrant. It is as if they have their own life since the shapes and color combination create so much movement. The color combination is very peaceful and serene and has a calm yet energetic effect on the viewer. All my paintings change very much by the surrounding light and objects. It would look great with an accent light above or below the painting. The frame around the painting is hand made and it was made just to give more of a finished look as it was being exhibited at a show. A more appropriate frame would look great. Wonderful for any residential and commercial environment. less
