A lovely English oak "joint stool" with hand-carved motifs, two scalloped edges, and turned legs. Joint stools were assigned as a test for future craftsmen and often was the first project offered to prove your skills. This example was made in England in the 19th century, featuring a rectangular top that could be used for an extra seat or small occasional table for the modern interior. The ensemble is resting on four turned legs connected by plain side stretchers. With its dark patina and impressive technique, this stool will bring a touch of authenticity to any space. Cleaned and polished with French paste wax. Be sure to view the detailed images for a closer look.
