The basket shape is round bowl form on an integrated base, and the thick bamboo rim is fitted with a lid decorated with a layered weaving in the tortoise shell pattern over another intricate weave. This multi-layered weaving technique, with embroidered medallion and free-floating copper coins woven into the base of the basket, was a style of basketry produced by of one of China’s minority communities in Southwest China. This is a unique traditional design of the highest quality and condition.
