this is just a great original piece. One of two original paintings done by important croatian artist vladimir potocnjak. Surprisingly, I have not been able to find a complete biography about the artist. There is a facebook page dedicated to the artist that does have most of his history and life on it. His works rarely come to market and the idea that you can buy them here in america is exciting. These both came from a home that had them hanging for decades and based on the paperwork on the back of one of them, I am guessing that these were purchased in croatia back in the 1960s. This is a wonderful original view of what I imagine is a croatian village in a sort of post impressionism, modernism style. Oil on canvas measuring 18 x 30 inches. Signed lower right. It looks as though it was perhaps cut down a little as the signature goes a little under the frame and that edge shows some painting to the canvas. Painting is in excellent original condition. There is some slight craquelere along the sky across the painting that leads me to believe this came to america rolled up and then restretched (thus the trimming to the side). Perhaps a slight layer of surface grime but nothing of concern. Original period frame is complimentary and ready to hang. Frame measures 22 3/4 x 34 1/2 inches. See less
