This is just a great original piece. I have always loved valfred thelin paintings. I think his ability to convey light and depth with watercolors and gouache is superior. This is from a collection of 3 of his works I acquired from a single collector. I am offering them all this week. A great chance to build your collection. I also have one of his best paintings available in my store. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included his biography below. This is a wonderful original gouache or maybe acrylic on paper view of a grouse sitting on a rock, most likely somewhere in maine. Painting measures 10 x 13 3/4 inches. Signed lower right corner. Outstanding as painted condition. Really a stunning example of the artist's work. Painting is in archival matte and frame behind glass that is a wonderful compliment for the painting and ready to hang. Frame measures 19 x 23 inches.
For those not familiar with the artist, his biography from askart that sells his work reads:"He was born in Waterbury, Connecticut and was trained in the European apprentice tradition by his Grandfather, a muralist who came to the United States from Sweden in the late 1800s. His father Carl Valfred Thelin, a commercial artist strongly influenced his work as well. He went on to study at the Art Institute of Chicago, the University of Wisconsin, and the Art Students League of New York. He participated in seminars in Europe, worked on a one-to-one with Hans Hoffman, and Georgia O Keffe. He was Artist in Residence at the University of Wisconsin, and a signature member of The American Watercolor Society.
Thelin has received many national and international awards for his work, and has been featured in many national and international publications. His work has been displayed in many museums, private collections, and galleries here and abroad. Thelin was a sculptor and painter of acrylic and watercolor. He enjoyed sharing his interest with others and taught classes at museums, universities and organizations. He considered himself an abstract realist, as he liked to begin a painting in an abstract manner, when he discovered references in his subconscious, he slowly developed the painting in a realistic manor. He co-authored the book Watercolor: Let the Medium Do It (1988 Watson -Guptill, NY) with Florida artist Pat Burlin, her husband Jack Burlin did the photography"
