A spindle back lounge chair By Peter Hvidt & Orla Molgaard Nielsen produced in Denmark by France & Daverkosen. A stunning high back Spindle Back Lounge chair made of high quality Oak & Teak. The incorporation of a traditional spindle back design into a Danish Modern style propelling this chair into the modern world and new aesthetic. Model FD 145 is an iconic Danish Modern Lounge Chair. Produced in a taller FD 145 and shorter FD 144 back version, this being the taller back. Amazing lines are created with the slant of the back in contrast to the slant of the legs, all joined together with the elegant curvilinear arms and simplicity of the spindle back. The detail of the teak joined to the oak bentwood arms and sabot style feet adds a refinement quality showcasing master craftmanship. An wonderful example maintaining original finish and both original spring cage cushions. The original spring cage cushions have a specific shape that was designed for the chair frame. The top cushion is tapered front to back to the top and the bottom slightly to the sides. In very good condition newly recovered in Scandinavian Style Soft Blue Boucle. The makers marks of France & Daverkosen dates this chair pre 1956 as they changed the name to France & Son in 1957. This particular chair also has the inlaid badge of John Stuart, high end retail division of John Widdicomb Furniture. A very comfortable Danish Modern Lounge chair by top Danish designers and top maker of the period. See less
