Carved wood Lega passport mask, Democratic Republic of the Congo, early 20th century.
Small Lega masks are called Lukwakongo and were worn on the arm, carried in the hand, attached to a hat or grouped with similar masks These masks are symbols of the owner's rank within the society.
Mask measures 5 1/4" x 3 1/4" x 1 1/2". Hangs on table top display stand - 7" tall overall. Good condition - wear consistent with age.
