This is an original oil landscape by me, L Haas, painted on 12″ W × 8″ H × 0.25″ D oil on gessoed wood panel, signed. I’ve always been drawn to the dramatic silhouettes of cypress trees along the California coast — their twisted forms standing strong against sea air and shifting light. Twisted Cypress, Carmel grew from one of those afternoons spent wandering the shoreline, watching how the cool blues and wind‑touched greens played off the sky and distant ocean.

In this piece, I leaned into the iconic character of the cypress, letting gesture and color speak for the movement and atmosphere of the place. There’s a certain poetry in these resilient trees — weathered yet elegant — and I wanted the brushwork to reflect that balance between strength and quiet beauty.
