It was designed by world renowned furniture designer Betty Cobonpue and bears her signature on the brass tag at the back of the mirror. Betty Cobonpue – was a noted Philippines based designer who in the 1980's created a unique line of furniture called “Scultura” which she marketed mostly through exclusive dealers on the East Coast. Cobonpue has described her design philosophy with a simple mantra: "No hard edges." Unlike traditional rattan furniture that is woven, Cobonpue's furniture is made from lengths of young rattan vine, meticulously cut, heated and wet-bent over wooden forms. She invented and patented this technique of laminating fine rattan vines to form the fluid sculptural lines of her furniture, a technique that would later earn her numerous awards. This technique makes her pieces very strong structurally and solid as a rock. The mirror also has a matching console table that is available for sale separately.
