Created in China during the Qing Dynasty period in the 19th century, this handmade grain basket features a pear shape perfectly complimenting a nicely varnished wooden body. The basket showcases a circular opening strengthened by an iron brace running along the outer edge, and separating the opening into two sections. The body tapers and is secured inside an horizontal iron brace, thinner than the one in the upper section. Showcasing lateral handle style motifs, the basket was used to store grains in the past. With its simple lines, great character and nicely varnished wood, this Chinese Qing Dynasty period handmade pear shaped grain basket from the 19th century will add a rustic touch of authenticity to any home, perhaps used as a storage bin or, if reversed, used as a drinks table.
