Vintage Paolo Soleri Sand Cast Bronze Cosanti Windbell, Model 104, Circa 1980s. Designed around an organic conical body form with soft surface ridge details. This particular form is catalogue model 104. Brutalist in style, the patinated surface is textured to perfection in shades of rust and green. A triple link chain attaches to the top of the piece. The bell retains its original fin.
Each original Cosanti bell is unique, with no two bells being exactly the same as they were produced by hand in sand molds by artisans. Even though foundry artisans are anonymous, they have been known on occasion to add a special marking of individuality on the interior of the bells (a small asterisk mark in this case). This piece is also unique in the fact that it is missing the typical Soleri seal (though confirmed to be authentic by Arcosanti).
Provenance: Purchased from the estate of a former Jay Roach Gallery (Columbia, MO) employee selling Soleri Bells in the 70s/80s. During her tenure, she was able to meet Paolo Soleri.
Paolo Soleri was an Italian architect. He established the educational Cosanti Foundation and Arcosanti, an "urban laboratory" (so-dubbed by Ada Louise Huxtable, who at the time was the architectural critic of The NY Times) which became internationally renowned in Arizona.
