A classical bronze figure of Silenus supports an ornamental oil lamp vessel above his head, with shell motifs adorning the lamp's body and a brass fitting at the top. The bearded satyr stands barefoot on a circular base, rendered in rich dark bronze with fine detail throughout his musculature and drapery.
Circa 1880, this work reflects the Grand Tour tradition, when European collectors traveled through Italy and Greece seeking classical antiquities and reproductions.
