(Ferdinand) Levillain (France, 1837-1905) and dated 1861. The top has the Neo-Greek motif of Pandora and Prometheus.
Ferdinand Levillain had his debut at the Paris Salon in 1861 and won recognition through the 1860s and 1870s for his ornate work with the highly respected Barbedienne foundry. In 1878, he ceased his collaboration with Barbedienne and triumphed alone at the Exposition Universelle, where he won the gold medal for his work. In 1892, he was recognized with the highly prestigious Légion d'Honneur.
This solid bronze, three-legged stand is 15-7/8" wide x 32.5" tall and weighs 27 pounds.
Besides its use as a sturdy side table for drinks, it can be imagined as a candle or plant stand. See less
