A unique large antique, circa 1860s, early American hand carved painted and sculpted wooden patriotic barber pole advertising trade sign / open sign.
Mid-19th century, Southern United States, surmounted by stylized eight star flag over sculptural giltwood eagle, above polychrome decorated helical barber pole pillar on a scalloped edge plaque.
The Confederate States of America’s first national flag was known as the “Stars & Bars.” This flag flew from 1861 to 1863. Each of the eight stars represented a Confederate state in March 1861 when the flag was adopted.
