It features a large … Read more This Belgian 19th-century wooden wallpaper roll was converted into a lamp sometime in the mid-20th century. It features a large hand-carved, repeating floral pattern with much of the relief details outlined in brass bands. Stamped 'Made in Belgium' on the base of the roller.

This lamp has been professionally rewired and fitted with a solid brass, antique reproduction socket and three-way switch. The woven rattan lampshade is included and is not original to the lamp.

These wooden wallpaper rollers blended freehand art with exact mathematics to ensure a seamless, repeating pattern as they were rolled over long sheets of paper. They were invented in the mid-19th century and gradually replaced with flatbed rollers in the 20th century.
